For the school year 2026/27, we are seeking an eager and motivated
Head of Saturday School
In this role, you will organize, plan, budget, staff and oversee GISSV’s Saturday School, including hiring and motivating staff, attracting, advising, and retaining students to the program as well as interacting with GISSV’s day school for feedback on German language instruction. In addition to broadening the interest of the German Language and Culture, the Head of the Saturday School should guide and encourage advanced students to be in a position to join the GISSV regular school as well as prepare students for the DSD I and II exams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage all aspects of GISSV’s Saturday School Program, including course offerings, scheduling, enrollment, report cards, personnel management, and communications.
- Oversee the hiring, training, development, and management of all Saturday School employees.
- Provide input to Accounting for setting the Saturday School operating budget.
- Manage the Saturday School budget to ensure that appropriate income and expense targets are met.
- Coordinate with facilities personnel with respect to space planning and other campus needs related to the Program.
- Coordinate marketing and communications efforts, and responsible for communications with Saturday School families and personnel.
- Coordinate with ZfA regarding DSDI and DSDII exams, as well as complete annual funding requests based on student numbers and successful exam candidates.
- Advise advanced students about the possibilities of joining the GISSV regular school in coordination with GISSV School leadership.
- Advise parents and students regarding high school credits, exams, and German University applications.
- Plan and coordinate special events for the Saturday School community, with the support of volunteers (events in previous years included holiday celebrations like Laternenfest, Nikolaus, Adventsfeier, Faschingsfeier, Abschlussfeier, the Saturday School Book Exchange, Head of Saturday School talks for parents on relevant topics.).
- Manage Saturday School curriculum for all courses and revise/update if necessary. Oversee ordering and distribution of textbooks.
- Approve timesheets including announcing any additional hours that could be needed from time to time to the CAO in advance.
- Work with the GISSV administration in the following areas :
- Library - orders & distribution of books and other teaching materials
- Office staff - Yellow Folder, report cards, distribution of class lists, communication with instructors, set-up and maintenance of shared Saturday School Drive
- Marketing & Communications - for updates and maintenance of Saturday School website
- HR - coordination of the hiring/exit process, payroll, time and attendance
Experience and Qualifications:
- Professional fluency in both English and German is required.
- A degree in education, German studies, linguistics, or a related field is preferred.
- Several years of experience in teaching, educational administration, or program management, ideally within a language or cultural education setting.
- Experience working with children and adolescents in a school or educational environment.
- Familiarity with the German language curriculum and ideally with the DSD I and DSD II examination framework.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and experience supervising or coordinating staff.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, teachers, and the broader community.
- Budget management experience is preferred.
- A passion for German language and culture and a commitment to fostering a vibrant and welcoming learning environment.
FLSA Classification: Non-exempt (Hourly)
Reports To: Head of School
Pay Range: $40.00 - $45.00 per hour worked
Full-Time/Part-Time: 15 hours per week
Location: Mountain View, CA
