Facilities Technician
For the upcoming school year and with a start date of July 1, 2026, we are seeking an experienced
Facilities Technician
The Facilities Technician is responsible for the hands-on upkeep, safety, and operational readiness of the school’s physical infrastructure. Reporting directly to the Head of Facilities and Transportation, the successful candidate serves as the primary on-site point person for facilities-related matters at the Mountain View campus and will focus on proactively resolving facility issues, performing technical repairs, and providing essential logistical support for school events.
Location
Work is based at the Mountain View campus, with visits to the San Francisco campus required as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction and supervision of the Head of Facilities and Transportation, the technician will:
- Perform technical repairs: Act as the primary person for basic plumbing, lighting, carpentry, and mechanical issues.
- Execute maintenance schedules: Follow the regular maintenance schedule to ensure all school facilities are operational.
- Janitorial Coordination: Work closely with and help organize the daily tasks of external janitorial staff to ensure the campus remains clean and safe.
- Conduct inspections: Regularly inspect classrooms and the campus at large for damage, performing necessary repairs immediately, and flag important issues to the Head of Facilities.
- Systems operation: Operate and monitor heating, cooling, plumbing, and electrical equipment.
- Safety & Compliance: Maintain fire extinguishers, sprinklers, emergency exit signs, etc.; coordinate monthly and yearly inspections.
- Logistical Support: Move and assemble furniture and equipment; set up sound systems and equipment for school events.
- Campus Security: Coordinate school opening and closing procedures (unlocking/locking rooms) and maintain key system.
- Contractor Support: Assist the Head of Facilities by reporting when specialized contractors are needed and helping to coordinate their on-site work.
- Tool Usage: Safely operate a variety of maintenance tools including chain saws, sweepers, and blowers.
- Workshop Management: Organize and maintain the school's maintenance workshop, ensuring that all tools are properly cared for, stored safely, and that supplies are inventoried for ongoing repair needs.
Experience and Qualifications:
The ideal candidate prioritizes technical trade skills and hands-on capability:
- Education: High School diploma required; Technical School certificate in a relevant trade is preferred.
- Technical Experience: Minimum three years of hands-on experience in construction, plant engineering, or facility maintenance.
- Trade Skills: Proven proficiency in at least one technical trade (e.g., carpentry, mechanical, electrical, or structural).
- Physical Ability: Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, crouch, and work in various weather conditions such as rain or sun.
- Tools & Equipment: Demonstrated experience in the safe operation of power equipment and machinery.
- Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with O.S.H.A. requirements and the ability to perform basic first aid.
- Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people, including staff and administrators, and remain calm during emergency situations.
- Software: Working knowledge of Google Suite for reporting and communication.
- Driving Record: Must possess a valid California Driver’s License and maintain a clean driving record (required for occasional travel with school vehicles between campus locations and assisting with vehicle-related logistics).
- Language: English proficiency is required with Spanish and/or German language skills highly desirable.

FLSA Classification: non-exempt (40h/week)

Pay Range: $32.00 - $37.00 per hour worked, depending on experience
