Substitute After School Teacher

German language skills required

We are looking for substitute teachers who enjoy working creatively with our students and providing a safe, engaging, and supportive after school environment. Substitute teachers provide coverage for regular After School staff when needed and support the day-to-day operation of the program under the direction of the Head of Auxiliary Programs and/or the regular After School team. Assignments may vary depending on program needs and may include supervising students, supporting homework, and leading recreational activities.

Substitute hours are generally in the afternoon between 1:30pm and 5:30pm and will vary based on program needs and staff absences. This is an on-call substitute position and does not guarantee a specific number of hours per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide coverage for regular After School staff and support the day-to-day operation of the program as assigned.
• Homework mentoring possible
• Communicate relevant information regarding students' behavior, needs, and activities to the regular After School team and/or supervisor.
• Supervising children, providing emotional support and ensuring their safety.
• Follow the daily schedule, routines, and instructions provided by the regular After School team or supervisor.
• Adapt to different assignments and student groups as needed.
• Maintain appropriate supervision and follow all school safety and student supervision procedures.
• Lead or assist with arts & crafts, sports, science projects, and other recreational activities as assigned.
• Organizing other recreational activities.
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Head of School

Experience and Qualifications:

• 1+ years of professional experience in recreational school programs, homework mentoring
• Open-mindedness, organizational skills, creativity, and enthusiasm for improvisation
• Experience and competence in advising, communicating and working effectively with parents
• Must demonstrate competency with basic word processing and internet functions; as well as all applications used in the regular functioning of the school.
• Ability to ascertain which people may need immediate assistance and to act accordingly.
• German language skills required
• Valid US work permit required

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt (hourly)

Hours: Substitute/on-call; assignments vary based on program needs. Availability Monday-Friday between 1:30pm and 5:30pm is preferred.

Reports To: Head of Auxiliary Programs

Location: Mountain View

Pay Scale: $28.00 - $34.00 per hour worked, depending on experience
